What Drives Us.....

We have a passion for wood, for it's inner beauty and it is our aim to unlock the beauty.  We like to work with the timber not against it.

When we start a piece, we look at our stock and select the best pieces for the position it will be on the finished item.  This usually means looking at the grain, ensuring that the most beautiful part of the timber is on display, or matching grain as much as possible when pairing planks together for panels and worktops.

Sometimes, plans will change slightly throughout the build, just to ensure that a particular piece of wood has it's beauty displayed to it's full potential.

It is this love of timber that make our pieces different and what has driven us to create the pieces we have.
                                 What do you get.....

You have an idea for a piece of furniture, but you are not quite sure how to get it, or even if it is possible to build.  Then talk to us at Cuckfield Carpentry & Decking; if your ideas are not possible, chances are we can come up with an alternative to match your needs and or your wants.

Got a space in a room, but can't find a piece that fits perfectly from a high street store, then speak to us.  It might be cheaper than you think to have a bespoke piece of furniture designed and built.  We can balance your wishes with your budget, using timber and fittings choice to control the costs.

Fed up with the quality of shop bought furniture, but love their Swedish ideas.  Then talk to us, no matter your budget, we will build furniture to last, using tried and tested joinery proved over time by generations of joiners and carpenters.
What to Expect with our work.....

Don't expect a piece where the timber is so overworked it looks like plastic, or that it is built by robots.  Where there is no evidence of the human hand who has lovingly worked the wood to tease out its qualities.

Do expect a piece that might still have imperfections, imperfect grain or even knots and knot holes, depending on their position.  These imperfections will not be used where they weaken the piece, but kept in to enhance the beauty.

Each piece will be finished to a very high quality, giving a tactile smooth finish, we prefer using oils to give a satin finish, but we will work to your specification on the final finish and where possible sample finishes will be supplied to help you choose.
